Both the central government and the local government are particularly targeting onSafe Motherhood and Newborn Child Health Program

• Under this program, Basic Obstetric Care will be available at health institutions down to the level of Primary Health Centers. The maternity service will be provided by the HP level, provided that they are equipped with necessary infrastructure and health Human Resource. For the Comprehensive Emergency Obstetric Care (CEOC), physical infrastructure in various additional hospitals will be developed. Proper Neonatal Care and Health services will also be delivered by such hospitals. Until the SBA are available trained health workers with general training will be further trained to provide delivery service.
• For safe motherhood promotive program, life security program and SBA program will be conducted effectively in close involvement of NGO and private sectors.
• Safe abortion will be made available in in all 77 Districts.

• Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) and polio eradication program will be conducted throughout the country.
• The Community Based Integrated management of Neonataland Child Illness. This integrated package of child-survival intervention addresses the major problems of sick newborn such as birth asphyxia, bacterial infection, jaundice, hypothermia, low birthweight, counseling of breastfeeding. It also maintains its aim to address major childhood illnesses like Pneumonia, Diarrhea, Malaria, Measles and Malnutrition among under 5 year’s children in a holistic way.
• Nutrition

In addition to the community and peripheral health care network, special programs to address specific health issues have been initiated by the Nepalese government and by Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs) both from Nepal and outside Nepal. To reduce mother and child mortality the maternal health care program “National Safe Motherhood Program” for antenatal and postnatal care has been initiated by the Ministry of health of Nepal. To reduce the burden of POP in rural areas, the government initiated mobile surgery camps.

Several NGO’s are providing health care in addition to routine care, for instance they organise gyno camps in rural areas to help POP patients and to improve knowledge and practical experience with POP amongst health care workers.
